Wednesday, 01/04/17

·  Students will receive their new Spelling List and Activities to choose from.  These will be due Wednesday, 1/11 and the Spelling Test will be that day.

·  Begin a Literature Unit called The Study of Chocolate, which will focus heavily on non-fiction texts regarding the history, growth, production, and manufacturing of chocolate products.

·  Introduce the unit with the following pre-reading activities:

o Fudgie Bear Read Aloud

o Chocolate KWL Chart

·  Together, begin reading The Story of Chocolate, published by the National Confectioners Association’s Chocolate Council:

o Read Ch. 1 Food of the Gods

o Annotate & Highlight as we read.

Work Stations

·         Answer Ch. 1 Read. Comp. Questions

·         Work on reading 1st Half of Literature Circle Book.

·         Work on Lit. Circle Assignment #1 due Friday, 1/6.

·         Complete January Istation Assessment.

HW: Read for 30 minutes.  Lit. Circle Assignment #1 due Friday.

 

Thursday, 01/05/17

·  We will review our answers to Ch. 1 Chocolate Reading Comp. Questions.  We will read the first few paragraphs of Ch. 2, “History of Chocolate”, out loud together, annotating and highlighting as appropriate.

·  Students will read “The Plight of the Pioneer”, and then work in their table groups to come up with possible solutions.  Students will then record their answers as a quickwrite.

·         Work on Ch. 2 Read. Comp. Questions

·         Work on reading 1st Half of Literature Circle Book.

·         Work on Lit. Circle Assignment #1 due Friday.

·         Begin work on Manifest Destiny packet.

·         Complete January Istation Assessment.

HW: Read for 30 minutes.  Lit. Circle Assignment #1 due TOMORROW.

 

Friday, 01/06/17

Weiman—Library

·  Students will meet in their Literature Circle groups to check progress with one another, and discuss how the plot has started to develop.  I will also meet with each group to discuss their books with them.  They will turn in written responses to their Literature Circle Questions at this time.

·  We will watch the first ½ of “Westward” section of America: The Story of Us, and we will take time to pause and reflect on comprehension questions as we watch the video.  Add states to the United States political map, and outline the Louisiana Purchase states.  Take time to discuss how this large growth affected America.

Work Stations

·         Complete Ch. 2 Read. Comp. Questions

·         Work on reading 2nd Half of Literature Circle Book.

·         Work on Manifest Destiny packet.

·         Complete January Istation Assessment.

HW:  Read and Rest.
