 This week, we will:

 

Monday, 02/06/17

Furnari – Library

·         I will introduce Wordly Wise Unit 2 with a PowerPoint and discussion, and we will begin 2A.

·         Students will learn about which states sided with the Union during the Civil War, and which were a part of the Confederacy.  They will use textbooks and non-fiction text to confirm what they have learned.

·         We will continue our second in-class novel A Picture of Freedom.  They will write in their notebooks, reflecting on what has happened thus far in the story, and predict what they think will happen next.  They will have the opportunity to share their responses with their classmates.  We will then continue reading the novel, pausing for questions and discussion.

Work Stations

·         Complete Ch. 6-7 Chocolate Reading Comp. Questions.

·         Begin Section 2 – A Picture of Freedom Questions & Vocabulary.

·         Work on Map and Fort Sumter reading.

·         Work on Unit 2 Wordly Wise Exercises.

·         Work on Weekly Spelling Activities.

HW: Finish Wordly Wise Exercise 2A.  Read for 30 minutes.

 

Tuesday, 02/07/17

·         We will correct WW 2A, and begin 2B.

·         We will review the answers to Chocolate Chapter 6-7 Questions, pausing to clarify and discuss as needed, and modeling proper use of active reading strategies.   Students will then learn about their final product for this unit, which will be to create an informational brochure about all they have learned about chocolate.

·         We will continue reading A Picture of Freedom, pausing to discuss key characters, important plot and historical points, and to answer student questions.

Work Stations

·         Begin working on “Frozen Frogs/Long Live the Tree”, a STAAR Release Non-Fiction paired selection.

·         Begin Section 2 – A Picture of Freedom Questions & Vocabulary.

·         Work on Chocolate Brochure.

·         Work on Unit 2 Wordly Wise Exercises.

·         Work on Weekly Spelling Activities.

Wednesday, 02/08/17

·         We will correct Wordly Wise 2B. 

·         Students will work in pairs or trios to present a short skit, each one illustrating a different cause of the Civil War.  We will discuss each one, and their importance as they are presented.

·         We will read several passages together from the novel Mockingbird, which we will be seeing the dramatic adaptation of on Friday.  We will discuss characters, setting, and major plot points of the exposition of the story.  Students will fill out a graphic organizer, and write a journal response.

·         We will continue reading A Picture of Freedom, pausing to discuss key characters, important plot and historical points, and to answer student questions.

Work Stations

·         Complete WW2E.

·         Complete “Frozen Frogs/Long Live the Tree”, a STAAR Release Non-Fiction paired selection.

·         Continue Section 2 – A Picture of Freedom Questions & Vocabulary.

·         Work on Chocolate Brochure.

·         Work on Weekly Spelling Activities.

·         Rotate students on computers to take the February Istation Assessment.

HW: Read for 30 minutes. Study for spelling test TOMORROW.

 

Thursday, 02/09/17

·         We will correct Wordly Wise 2E, and begin Exercise 2D.

 

·         We will finish reading several passages together from the novel Mockingbird, which we will be seeing the dramatic adaptation of on Friday.  We will discuss characters, setting, and major plot points of the exposition of the story.  Students will fill out a graphic organizer, and write a journal response.

·         We will review “Frozen Frogs/Long Live the Tree”, the non-fiction paired selection students worked on this week.  We will go over main idea, reading graphs and charts, and making connections.

·         We will finish reading Section 2.  We will review Section 2 A Picture of Freedom Questions and Vocabulary.

Work Stations

·         Complete Spelling Test.

·         Complete Section 2 A Picture of Freedom Quiz.

·         Work on Chocolate Brochure.

·         Rotate students on computers to take the February Istation Assessment.

HW: Finish Wordly Wise 2D.  Read for 30 minutes.

 

Friday, 02/10/17

Afternoon Field Trip to Main Street Theater to see Mockingbird

·         I will pass out weekly spelling word lists, and spelling work menus.  Spelling Test will be on Thursday, 2/16.

·         We will correct Wordly Wise 2D, grade, and turn in Wordly Wise Pages.

HW:  Read and Rest.
