 This week, we will:

 

Monday, 02/27/17

Furnari – Library

·         Power Hour (9-10 a.m., 1-2 p.m.): Students will be seated in differentiated groups, working on Non-Fiction Reading Passages.  They will practice their strategies, summarizing and highlighting key words.  Students will also answer questions about non-fiction text features, inferences, main idea, and supporting details.

·         I will introduce Wordly Wise Unit 17 with a PowerPoint and discussion, and we will begin 17A.

·         We will continue our second in-class novel A Picture of Freedom.  Students will write in their journals and discuss as they think about what to come in the last section of the novel. We will continue reading the novel, pausing for questions and discussion.  Students will answer comprehension questions and look up vocabulary words from the book.

·         We will watch the BrainPop explaining the genre of drama.  We will then work on the quiz together, and define some well-known terms pertaining to drama.

Work Stations

·         Work on Unit 17 Wordly Wise Exercises.

·         Work on “Dishonest Merchant”/”Guilty” questions.

·         Work on Section 4 – A Picture of Freedom Questions & Vocabulary.

HW: Finish Wordly Wise Exercise 17A.

 

Tuesday, 02/28/17

·         We will correct WW 17A, and begin 17E.

·         Power Hour (9-10 a.m., 1-2 p.m.): Students will be seated in differentiated groups, working on Non-Fiction Reading Passages.  They will practice their strategies, summarizing and highlighting key words.  Students will also answer questions about non-fiction text features, inferences, main idea, and supporting details.

·         We will continue our second in-class novel A Picture of Freedom.  We will continue reading the novel, pausing for questions and discussion.  Students will answer comprehension questions and look up vocabulary words from the book.

·         Students will listen to a recording of the Gettysburg Address, and we will discuss its historical significance.  Students will then work in answer questions using a graphic that illustrates the meaning of the words.

·         Work on Section 4 – A Picture of Freedom Questions & Vocabulary.

·         Work on “Dishonest Merchant”/”Guilty” questions.

·         Work on Unit 17 Wordly Wise Exercises.

·         We will correct WW 17B, and begin 17B.  

·         We will continue reading our second in-class novel A Picture of Freedom, pausing for questions and discussion.  Students will answer comprehension questions and look up vocabulary words from the book.

·         Students will complete a short test on inferencing, summarizing, and main idea/supporting details.

·         Work on “Dishonest Merchant”/”Guilty” questions.

·         Work on Unit 17 Wordly Wise Exercises.

HW: Finish Wordly Wise Exercise 17E.  Read for 30 minutes.

 

Thursday, 03/02/17

·         We will correct WW 17E, and begin Exercise 17D.

·         We will review “Princess for a Day”, the fiction passage; “The Dishonest Merchant” & “Guilty”, the paired selection of a folktale and a poem students worked on this week.  We will go over inferencing, drawing conclusions, vocabulary, summarizing, and making connections.

·         Students will read through a script on women’s history.  We will discuss elements of drama and discuss what is happening through the play.

·         We will continue reading our second in-class novel A Picture of Freedom, pausing for questions and discussion.  Students will answer comprehension questions and look up vocabulary words from the book.

Work Stations

·         Complete A Picture of Freedom Section 4 Open Book QUIZ.

·         Work on STAAR Release Drama Passage.

·         Work on Unit 17 Wordly Wise Exercises.

HW: Finish Wordly Wise 17D.  Read for 30 minutes.  Wordly Wise QUIZ TOMORROW.

 

Friday, 03/03/17

Weiman—Library

Go Texan Day

·         We will correct WW 17D, write total grade, and turn in Wordly Wise Pages.

·         Students will read through a script on women’s history.  We will discuss elements of drama and discuss what is happening through the play.

·         We will finish our second in-class novel A Picture of Freedom.  They will write in their notebooks, reflecting on the story.  They will have the opportunity to share their responses with their classmates. 

Work Stations

·         Complete Wordly Wise Quiz.

·         Complete A Picture of Freedom Section 4 Open Book QUIZ.

·         Work on STAAR Release Drama Passage.

·         Work on Unit 17 Wordly Wise Exercises.

HW:  Read and Rest.
