 This week, we will:

 

Monday, 03/06/17

Furnari – Library

Spirit Night

·         Power Hour (9-10 a.m., 1-2 p.m.): Students will be seated in differentiated groups, working on Paired Selections Reading Passages.  They will practice their strategies, summarizing and highlighting key words.  Students will also answer questions about the text features, inferences, main idea, and supporting details, as well as making connections between passages of different genres.

·         I will introduce Wordly Wise Unit 18 with a PowerPoint and discussion, and we will begin 18A.

·         Students will finish reading our second in class novel, A Picture of Freedom.  We will review answers from the historical information, talking about the events that took place leading up to the Civil War, directly concerned with slavery.

·         We will review “Princess for a Day”, the fiction passage; “The Dishonest Merchant” & “Guilty”, the paired selection of a folktale and a poem students worked on this week.  We will go over inferencing, drawing conclusions, vocabulary, summarizing, and making connections.

Work Stations

·         Work on WW 18A.

·         Complete A Picture of Freedom Section 4 Open Book QUIZ.

HW: Spirit Night—No Homework.

 

Tuesday, 03/07/17

·         We will correct WW 18A, and begin 18B.

·         Power Hour (9-10 a.m., 1-2 p.m.): Students will be seated in differentiated groups, working on Poetry Reading Passages.  They will practice their strategies, summarizing and highlighting key words.  Students will also answer questions about the elements of poetry, inferences, and theme.

·         Students will work through 4 Drama Work Stations, each reviewing elements of drama.  They will compare a story with its dramatic adaptation; annotate a scene; define terms; and complete a fun activity.

Work Stations

·         Work on Unit 18 Wordly Wise Exercises.

·         Work on “Carl is on the Case”, a STAAR Release Drama passage.

HW: Finish Wordly Wise Exercise 18B.  Read for 30 minutes.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   

Wednesday, 03/08/17

·         Power Hour (9-10 a.m., 1-2 p.m.): Students will be seated in differentiated groups, working on Poetry Reading Passages.  They will practice their strategies, summarizing and highlighting key words.  Students will also answer questions about the elements of poetry, inferences, and theme.

·         We will correct Wordly Wise 18B, and begin 18E.  

·         Students will listen to a recording of the Gettysburg Address, and we will discuss its historical significance.  Students will then work to answer questions using a graphic that illustrates the meaning of the words. 

Work Stations

·         Work on Unit 18 Wordly Wise Exercises.

·         Work on “Carl is on the Case”, a STAAR Release Drama passage.

HW: Finish Wordly Wise Exercise 18E.  Read for 30 minutes.

 

Thursday, 03/09/17

Magnet Program at 2 p.m.

·         We will correct Wordly Wise 18E, and begin 18D.

·         Students will confirm their Literature Circle book choice, if they didn’t already yesterday.  They will also receive their first Lit. Circle Assignment questions.

·         We will review “Carl Is on the Case”.  We will go over inferencing, drawing conclusions, vocabulary, summarizing, and the elements of Drama.

Work Stations

·         Complete Wordly Wise Exercise 18D.

·         Work on Missing Assignments.

·         Complete March I-station Assessment.

·         Read to self from a good-fit book.

HW: Finish Wordly Wise Exercise D.  Read for 30 minutes.  Wordly Wise QUIZ TOMORROW.

Magnet Program: Tonight!

 

Friday, 03/10/17

·         We will correct WW 18D, and collect Unit 18 Wordly Wise Pages.

·         We will watch Episode 6 – “Heartland” of America the Story of Us, pausing to discuss and answer comprehension questions.  This episode focuses on the time period of rapid expansion after the Civil War.

Work Stations

·         Complete Wordly Wise Unit 18 Quiz.

·         Work on Missing Assignments.

·         Complete March I-station Assessment.

·         Read to self from a good-fit book.

·         Begin working on Literature Circle Assignment.

HW:  Read and Rest.  Enjoy your Spring Break!
