This week in Ms. Furnari's class, we will:

Monday, 09/08/14

·         Collect reading log from last week.

·         Introduce Wordly Wise (WW) Unit 3 Vocabulary with a PowerPoint (see attachments below) & discussion.

·         Begin working on WW 3A.

·         Continue reading aloud from Blood on the River (BOTR), Chapters 11 & 12, pausing periodically for Q&A and discussion.

o   Add to Story Elements Chart as necessary.

·         Read “All Summer in a Day”; complete discussion questions along with Powerpoint (see attachments below for PDF of the story in case students want to use it for review outside of class).

HW: Read 30 minutes & log it.  Spirit Night at Escalantes!

 

Tuesday, 09/09/14

·         Work on WW 3C in class; begin working on 3B.

·         Istation—30 minutes for all students.  Students also may do Accelerated Reader quizzes as they so desire.

·         Grammar Mini-Lesson about Conjunctions, End Punctuation, and Commas.

o   Assign Write Source pgs. 2-8; will be due Friday, 9/12.

·         Continue reading aloud from Blood on the River (BOTR), Chapters 13 & 14, pausing periodically for Q&A and discussion.

·         Discuss setting and importance to plot as it relates to BOTR and “All Summer in a Day”.  Students will respond in Language Arts Notebook in writing.

·         HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it.  Finish WW 3B.

 

Wednesday, 09/10/14

·         Correct WW 3B.

·         Begin working on WW 3D.

·         Blood on the River Quiz: Reading Comprehension and Social Studies Concepts.

o   Will be questions reviewed in class discussion times and will be open book.

·         Make a character map of a character from BOTR: Samuel Collier, John Smith, President/Master Wingfield, or Reverend Hunt.

·         HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it.  Finish Wordly Wise 3D.

 

Thursday, 09/11/14

·         Correct WW 3D. 

·         September 11th—Patriots’ Day Observance:

o   BrainPop video on September 11th—watch and discuss.

o   Read the poem “September 11th”.

·         Continue reading aloud from Blood on the River (BOTR), Chapters 15 & 16, pausing periodically for Q&A and discussion.

·         HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it.  Study for Wordly Wise Unit 3 Spelling & Vocabulary QUIZ.

 

Friday, 09/12/14

·         Take the Wordly Wise Unit 3 Spelling & Vocabulary QUIZ.

·         Continue reading aloud from BOTR Chapters 17 & 18, pausing periodically for Q&A and discussion.

·         Discuss “All Summer in a Day”.  Create a plot diagram as it applies to this short story.

·         HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it.  Get Reading Log signed by parent.
