Week of 09/22/14 - 09/26/14

This week, we will:

 

Monday, 09/22/14

·         Furnari—Library Day

·         Collect reading log from last week.

·         Begin Wordly Wise Review puzzle, #1-10. 

·         Begin foldable on Apostrophes, Comma Rules (con.), and Quotation Marks.  These will explain rules as students need to review for their Write Source assignment this week.

o   Assign Write Source, p. 10-12, 18, 23-24, due Friday.

·         Take- Test Strategies notes—how to attack multiple choice questions, and the text that goes with them.

·         Work on Social Studies Textbook Scavenger Hunt: a collection of short answer questions based on Chapters 5-6 in The United States textbook.

·         Introduce the Colonies’ Region Project—students will work as a group to create a PowerPoint presentation.  Presentation will be due Friday, oral presentations will happen in class September 29-30.

HW: Read 30 minutes & log it.  Istation as needed.  Write Source packet, due Friday.

 

Tuesday, 09/23/14

·         Correct WW #1-10, work on #11-20.

·         Finish Grammar Mini-Lesson about Apostrophes, Comma Rules and Quotation Marks.

·         Students will finish Social Studies Textbook Scavenger Hunt.

·         Finish Test Strategies notes as needed.

·         Review Story Elements Chart from BOTR.  Students will take a Comprehension test Wednesday.

·         Work on Research Sheet with the textbook and other non-fiction texts, the first step of putting their Colonies’ Region project together.

·         HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it.  Istation as needed. Write Source packet, due Friday.

 

Wednesday, 09/24/14—Early Dismissal!

·         Continue Wordly Wise Review Puzzle: correct #11-20, begin working on #21-30.

·         Blood on the River Quiz: Reading Comprehension and Social Studies Concepts.

o   Will be multiple choice questions, and an open-ended response (OER) question.

·         HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it.  Istation as needed. Write Source packet, due Friday.

 

Thursday, 09/25/14

·         Weiman—Library Day

·         Correct WW #21-30, begin working on #31-44.

·         Students will work on laptops to finish their Research Sheets, and then begin assembling their PowerPoint presentation.

·         Review test strategies with a practice story from STAAR as a class.

·         HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it.  Istation as needed. Write Source packet, due Friday.

 

Friday, 09/26/14

·         Take a Reading Comprehension quiz, a paired selection of a poem and a non-fiction text from a section of a STAAR Released Test.

·         Collect Write Source packet and Wordly Wise review puzzle.  Collect students’ PowerPoint presentations.

·         Watch “Jamestown”, a splicing of Pocahontas and The New World.  Complete a three-way Venn diagram comparing and contrasting these two works with Blood on the River.

·         HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it.  Get Reading Log signed by parent.  Istation as needed.
