This week, we will:

 

Monday, 09/29/14

·         Collect reading log from last week.

·         Review test strategies with a practice story from the HISD Snapshot as a class.

·         Review, as needed, quotation marks and capitalization.

o   Assign Write Source, p. 27-28, 47-49, due Friday.

·         Students will finish working on laptops to put their Colonies presentation together.  They will need to submit their Powerpoint at the end of class today, and will also spend some times practicing their oral presentations.

HW: Read 30 minutes & log it.  Istation as needed.  Write Source packet, due Thursday. Curriculum Night tomorrow night!

 

Tuesday, 09/30/14

·         Three groups of students will present their Colony Regions Powerpoint presentations.  Students who are listening will take notes in a flip book on the regions.

·         Finish reviewing test strategies from the practice story.

·         Anticipatory Activity: From the Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil Frankweiler (FMUF), our new class novel—Students will do an activity that requires them to defend an ethical decision that arises from reading this novel.

·         We will then read Chapter 1, and answer discussion questions.  Students will also answer a journal prompt in their notebooks.

·         HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it.  Istation as needed. Write Source packet, due Thursday.

 

Wednesday, 10/01/14

·         Three groups of students will present their Colony Regions Powerpoint presentations.  Students who are listening will take notes in a flip book on the regions.

·         Students will take a short test, a STAAR release paired selection of a poem and nonfiction text.  They will receive a grade based on the number of questions they get correct, as well as how well they do their visible strategies.

·         Students will need to read Chapter 1 after finishing, or for homework.

·         HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it.  Istation as needed. Write Source packet, due Thursday. 

 

Thursday, 10/02/14

·         Computer Lab Day

·         Work Stations:

o   Correct and review Write Source as needed

o   Discuss FMUF, Ch. 1-2; have students read aloud.

o   Read to Self: Student’s Choice Book

·         HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it.  Istation as needed.

 

Friday, 10/03/14: No School—Fall Holiday
