This week, we will:

 

Monday, 10/06/14

Furnari—Library

·  Collect reading log from last week, and pass out new log.

·  Introduce Wordly Wise Unit 5 Vocabulary with a PowerPoint & discussion.

·  Begin Wordly Wise 5A.

Workstation Groups

·  Begin working on a From the Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil Frankweiler (FMUF) Story Elements Chart.

·  Read Ch. 2 from FMUF as a class, and respond to a journal prompt.

·  Read to Self, Ch. 3 from FMUF in Workstation Groups.

·  Check out copies of My Brother Sam is Dead to our highest level readers.  They will have to read the book on their own, complete discussion questions, and complete 3 small projects.

HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it, Istation (as needed).  Finish Wordly Wise 5A. 

 

Tuesday, 10/07/14

·  Correct Wordly Wise 5A, and begin working on 5B.

·  Write a Pre-Reading Journal with 2 choice options.

·  Build background knowledge about the author and setting of the story, as well as pre-teach vocabulary with a PowerPoint presentation.

·  Together, read the short story “Thank You, M’am” by Langston Hughes, and the short poem “If I Can Stop One Heart from Breaking” by Emily Dickinson.

·  Begin working on “Thank You, M’am” Reading Comprehension Questions.

HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it, Istation (as needed).  Finish Wordly Wise 5B. 

 

Wednesday, 10/08/14

NED Show 9:15-10:00 Cafeteria

·  Correct Wordly Wise 5B, and begin working on 5D.

·  Timeline Activity for lead-in to American Revolution with discussion of important terms.

·  Finish working on, review, and collect “Thank You, M’am” Reading Comprehension Questions.

·  Complete, review, and collect a “Thank You, M’am” Story Map Graphic Organizer.

HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it, Istation (as needed).  Finish Wordly Wise 5D.

 

Thursday, 10/09/14

P.E. Day

·  Correct Wordly Wise 5D, and grade Unit 5 work.

Workstation Groups

·  Together, watch the one-minute video “Visit the Met - See the World,” and introduce the Metropolitan Museum of Art Website to bring the setting to life.

·  Read Ch. 4 from FMUF as a class, and respond to a journal prompt.

·  Read to Self, Ch. 5 from FMUF in Workstation Groups.

·  Review STAAR release questions from last week as needed while students work in stations.

·  Continue My Brother Sam is Dead Independent Book Project (if assigned to you based on your reading level).

HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it, Istation (as needed).  Study for Unit 5 Vocab. Quiz.

 

Friday, 10/10/14

Picture Day

·  Take Unit 5 QUIZ.

·  Take a Grammar QUIZ, formatted like the Stanford, covering grammar review topics.

·  Work on a “Thank You M’am” Writing Extension Activity where students write a Thank You Card to Ms. Jones using the Friendly Letter format.

·  Read to self for any remaining class time from our free-choice books, or My Brother Sam is Dead.

HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it, Istation (as needed).  Get Reading Log signed.
