This week, we will:

 

Monday, 10/31/16

Library – Furnari

Free Dress

·         I will introduce Wordly Wise List 6 to the students using a PowerPoint presentation.  They will complete 6A for homework.

·         We will review answers to questions students completed the Friday before on Edgar Allen Poe’s poem, “The Raven”.  Students will review their thoughts on theme, usage of poetic elements, and thoughts on form and content.

·         We will resume taking notes on the American Revolution.  We will discuss the events of the Boston Massacre, Paul Revere’s painting, and students will work on a reading with accompanying comprehension questions.

Work Stations

·         Complete “The Raven” Quiz.

·         Work on Wordly Wise (WW) 6A.

·         Finish Boston Massacre Comprehension Questions.

·         Work on Travel Brochure.

·         Work on Literature Circle Assignment #1, due 11/14.

HW: Read for 30 minutes.

 

Tuesday, 11/01/16

·         We will correct WW 6A from their homework the previous day. 

·         We will resume watching the rest of the section, “Rebels”.  Students will answer questions on the events in Boston leading up to the Revolution.

·         We will discuss the genre of parody, and students will come up with examples they have seen in the media.  We will read a poem that is a parody of “The Raven”, as well as watch a clip from “The Simpsons” on the same subject.  We will discuss differences, similarities, and the use of humor.

Work Stations

·         Students will begin a Textbook Scavenger Hunt on the American Revolution.

·         Work on WW 6B.

·         Work on Travel Brochure.

·         Work on Literature Circle Assignment #1, due 11/14.

Wednesday, 11/02/16

·         We will correct WW 6B from their homework the previous day.  We will review how to complete WW Exercise E, which has students read a non-fiction passage and provide short answers to questions.

·         We will begin reading the poem “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.  We will discuss poetic elements as we read and annotate the poem.

Work Stations

·         Work on WW 6E.

·         Work on American Revolution Textbook Scavenger Hunt.

·         Work on Travel Brochure.

·         Work on Literature Circle Assignment #1, due 11/14.

HW: Read for 30 minutes.

 

Thursday, 11/03/16

·         We will correct WW 6E from their homework the previous day. 

·         We will finish reading and annotating the “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere” poem, watch a video to ensure comprehension, and students will answer questions about the poem’s form and content.

·         Students will complete a comprehension activity to learn more about the Boston Tea Party.

·         Work on WW 6D

·         Work on American Revolution Textbook Scavenger Hunt.

·         Work on Travel Brochure.

·         Work on Literature Circle Assignment #1, due 11/14.

HW: Study for Wordly Wise QUIZ tomorrow.  Read for 30 minutes.

 

Friday, 11/04/16

Library—Weiman

We will correct WW 6D from their homework the previous day, and they will turn in their work from the week.

Students will listen to a song from the musical Hamilton, which is King George III singing to the colonists.  They will answer questions and have a discussion to ensure comprehension.

Work Stations

·         Complete Wordly Wise Quiz 6.

·         Complete American Revolution Textbook Scavenger Hunt.

·         Work on Travel Brochure.

·         Work on Literature Circle Assignment #1, due 11/14.

HW:  Read & Rest.
