This week, we will:

 

Monday, 11/14/16

Library – Closed for Book Fair

Book Fair Kick-off Dinner at 6:00 pm

·         Students will meet with their literature circle groups, and using their assignment discuss their book.  They will focus on personal connections, setting, character development, structure, and defining the genre of their book.  They will then turn in their assignment #1, and we will discuss the due date for Literature Circle Assignment #2.

·         I will introduce Wordly Wise List 8 to the students using a PowerPoint presentation.  They will begin 8A in class, and complete 8A for homework.

·         We will review the “Foul Shot” poem that students analyzed the week prior.  We will discuss free verse, line length, poetic elements, and theme.

Work Stations

·         Work on Wordly Wise (WW) 8A.

·         Finish American Revolution Textbook Scavenger Hunt.

·         Complete November Istation Assessment.

HW: Read for 30 minutes.  Finish WW 8A if not completed in class.

 

Tuesday, 11/15/16

Progress Reports Go Home

CogAT Testing – after morning

Magnet – 2:00-2:45

We will correct WW 8A from their homework the previous day. 

We will review the answers to the American Revolution Textbook Scavenger Hunt that students completed the week before.  We will discuss key battles, events, and people of the Revolution.

Work Stations

·         Work on WW 8B.

·         Begin working on “Barter” Poetry Analysis.

·         Complete November Istation Assessment.

Wednesday, 11/16/16

Early Dismissal – 12:30

Lunch in Classroom

·         We will correct WW 8B from their homework the previous day.

·         Students will finish watching “Revolution” from America the Story of Us.  We will review their video comprehension questions, and they will respond to a journal prompt.

Work Stations

·         Work on WW 8E.

·         Work on “Barter” poetry annotation and coding of poetic elements.

HW: Read for 30 minutes.  Finish WW 8E if not completed in class.

 

Thursday, 11/17/16

·         We will correct WW 8E from their homework the previous day. 

·         We will review the poem “Barter” that students analyzed over the past two days.

·         Students will work on part of a STAAR Release assessment that demonstrates their understanding of Information Text, Poetry & Paired Selections.  They will read a passage about a type of cactus and a poem about a bird who lives in that cactus.  They will annotate the passages and show their strategies as they complete the questions.

Work Stations

·         Work on WW 8D.

·         Complete November Istation Assessment.

·         Independently read a good-fit book.

HW: Study for Wordly Wise QUIZ tomorrow.  Read for 30 minutes.  Finish WW 8D if not completed in class.

 

 

Friday, 11/18/16

5th Grade GRANDS Day

·         We will correct WW 8D from their homework the previous day, and they will turn in their work from the week.

Work Stations

·         Complete Wordly Wise Quiz 8.

·         Complete November Istation Assessment.

·         Independently read a good-fit book.

HW:  Read & Rest.
