Week of 1/12/15 - 1/16/15

This week, we will:


Monday, 1/12/15

·         Collect reading log from last week, and pass out new log.  Students are required to have at least 2 days of the week on their Reading Log be nonfiction.

·         Introduce Wordly Wise Unit 13 Vocabulary with a PowerPoint & discussion, and begin WW 13A.

·         Review Ch. 5 of Chocolate packet.

·         Workstation Groups:

o   Complete WW 13 E.

o   Complete “It’s Halloween”/”Borrowings”, a paired selection of poems.

HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it.  Finish Wordly Wise 13E.  Rough Draft of Short Story due on Wednesday.


Tuesday, 1/13/15


·         Correct Wordly Wise 13E.  Begin 13B.

·         Add states to the United States Map, focusing on Westward Expansion states and those that eventually came from the Louisiana Purchase.

·         Watch “Division” from America: The Story of Us, and take notes.  Students will discuss their answers in small groups periodically throughout the video.

·         Students will then do a Quickwrite, taking the perspective of someone from this time period.

HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it.  Finish Wordly Wise 13B.  Rough Draft of Short Story due on Wednesday.


Wednesday, 1/14/15

P.E. Day

·     Correct Wordly Wise 13B & E. Begin 13D.

·         Students need to have their rough draft of their short story complete at this time.

·         They will exchange papers and peer edit, providing feedback and constructive criticism to classmates.

·         Review Literature Circle Setup, go over book recommendations, and clarify with students what their reading level is.

Workstation Groups

·         Complete Wordly Wise, 13D.

·         Work on Ch. 6 & 7 of Chocolate, annotating and answering questions in complete sentences.

HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it. Finish Wordly Wise 13D.

Thursday, 1/15/15

Weiman – Library

·  Correct Wordly Wise 13D.

·         Stealing Freedom Book Launch: We will continue our discussion of what was going on in America leading up to the Civil War.  Students will debate topics on how they would personally react to events of those days.

·         Work on Ch. 6 & 7 of Chocolate.

·         Work on “Fright Night”, a paired selection of a drama and an expository passage.

HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it. Study for Wordly Wise QUIZ tomorrow.


Friday, 1/16/15.

·  Take Unit 13 QUIZ, and Collect Unit 13 Exercises.

·         Begin Causes of the Civil War powerpoint.

·         Students will do a reading and map skills packet on the divisions that led to the Civil War.

HW:  Read 30 minutes & log it. Get Reading Log signed.
