This week, we will:

 

Monday, 1/18/16

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

No School

 

Tuesday, 1/19/16

Furnari—Library

·        I will introduce Unit 13 with a PowerPoint and discussion, and we will complete Exercise 13A & B.

·        We will watch the next section of America: The Story of Us, “Division”.  This section looks at cotton production, the slave trade, and other causes of the Civil War.  As we watch, we will pause.  The students will answer questions, discussing as a table and a class.

Work Stations

·        Complete Ch. 4 of “The Story of Chocolate”.

·        Complete “The Slavery Compromise”, a map skills packet.

·        Begin reading “America vs. America”, which tells of slavery and other causes of the Civil War.

·        Work on reading 2nd Half of Literature Circle Book.

·        Work on Lit. Circle Assignment #2 due Thursday, 1/28.

·        Work on Unit 13 Wordly Wise Exercises.

HW: Finish Wordly Wise Exercise 13A & B.  Read for 30 minutes. 

 

Wednesday, 1/20/16

Computer Lab:

Furnari: 9:40-10:25 a.m., 1:15-2:00 p.m.

W: 8:00-8:45 a.m., 2:05-2:50 p.m.

·        We will correct 13A & B, and begin Exercise 13E.

·        We will finish and review the answers to Chapter 4 Questions, pausing to clarify and discuss as needed, and modeling proper use of active reading strategies.  We will also introduce the final project for the end of the Story of Chocolate unit. Students will make a tri-fold sharing information they learned, due on 2/2.

Work Stations

·        Work on reading 2nd Half of Literature Circle Book.

·        Work on Lit. Circle Assignment #2 due Thursday, 1/28.

·        Work on Unit 13 Wordly Wise Exercises.

HW: Finish Wordly Wise Exercise 13E.  Study for Spelling Test.  Read for 30 minutes.

Thursday, 1/21/16
Weiman—Library

·        We will correct 13E, and begin Exercise 13D.

 

·        We will review and discuss the Slavery Compromise, and review the maps and questions.

·        We will read the first few paragraphs of Ch. 5, out loud together, annotating and highlighting as appropriate.

Work Stations

·        Work on Ch. 5 Read. Comp. Questions.

·        Work on Chocolate Brochure.

·        Work on reading 2nd Half of Literature Circle Book.

·        Work on Lit. Circle Assignment #2 due Thursday, 1/28.

·        Work on Unit 13 Wordly Wise Exercises.

HW: Finish Wordly Wise 13D.  Read for 30 minutes.  Wordly Wise QUIZ TOMORROW.

 

 

Friday, 1/22/16

·        We will correct 13D, grade, and turn in Wordly Wise Pages.

·        We will review the major causes leading up to the Civil War, by doing Reader’s Theatre skits in pairs.  We will also discuss their thoughts on “America vs. America”, and review answers to questions about the graph that follows the passage.

Work Stations

·        Take Wordly Wise Unit 13 Quiz.

·        Read for 20 minutes when done.

·        Work on Ch. 5 Reading Comp. Questions.

·        Work on Chocolate Brochure.
