This week, we will:

 

Monday, 12/14/15

Art Day

·         I will pass out weekly word lists, and spelling work menus.

·         I will introduce Unit 10 with a PowerPoint and discussion, and we will complete Exercise 10A.

·         We will finish discussing the three branches of government.  We will review “The Powers of the Legislative Branch” and “The Powers of the Judicial Branch”.

·         We will discuss what shape poetry is, and how it can create meaning that might not otherwise be found in the poem itself.  Students will work on creating a shape poem.

Work Stations

    • Work on Camp Olympia Reflection Final Draft (due Thursday).
    • Work on Weekly Spelling Work.
    • Work on Unit 10 Wordly Wise Exercises.

HW:  Finish Wordly Wise Exercise 10A.  Work on Spelling.  Read for 30 minutes.

 

Tuesday, 12/15/15

Furnari—Library

·         We will correct 10A, and begin Exercise 10B.

·         Students will meet with their Literature Circle groups to discuss what their next book choice will be. 

·         We will review all that we have learned about the Articles of Confederation, the writing of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the branches of federal government.  Students will take a test TOMORROW, Wednesday.

Work Stations

    • Finish Shape Poem Writing.
    • Work on Camp Olympia Reflection Final Draft (due Thursday).
    • Research possible choices for Literature Circle book.
    • Work on Weekly Spelling Work.
    • Work on Unit 10 Wordly Wise Exercises.

HW: Finish Wordly Wise Exercise 10B.  Work on Spelling.  Read for 30 minutes. 

Wednesday, 12/16/15

Spelling Bee: 8:15 a.m.

Students are encouraged to wear black and yellow to support their friends!

·         We will correct 10B, and begin Exercise 10E.

·         We will present our Shape Poems.

·         Students will take an open-note test on the end of the American Revolution, the Articles of Confederation, the writing of the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

Work Stations

o   Complete Camp Olympia Reflection Final Draft (due Thursday).

o   Work on Wordly Wise Exercise 10E.

o   Work on Weekly Spelling Work.

HW: Finish Wordly Wise Exercise 10E.  Work on Spelling. Spelling Test TOMORROW. Read for 30 minutes.

Thursday, 12/17/15
Weiman—Library

·         We will correct 10E, and begin Exercise 10D.

·         Students will meet in their Literature Circle groups to glance through books and make a decision about their next Literature Circle book.

·         We will review our answers to the Constitution Test the students took on Wednesday.

 

Work Stations

    • Turn in Camp Olympia Reflection Final Draft.
    • Complete a Words Their Way Weekly Spelling Test, and turn in Weekly Spelling Work Take Words Their Way Spelling Test.
    • Work on Unit 10 Wordly Wise Exercises.
    • Independently read a good-fit book.

HW: Finish Wordly Wise 10D.  Work on Spelling.  Read for 30 minutes.  Wordly Wise QUIZ TOMORROW.

 

Friday, 12/18/15

·         We will correct 10D, and turn in Wordly Wise Pages.

Work Stations

  • Complete Wordly Wise Unit 10 Quiz.
  • Finish Classic Poetry Group Project (presentations on Mon. 11/23 & Tues. 11/24).
  • Independently read Literature Circle Book.

 

5th Grade Winter Party after Lunch!

Students are encouraged to wear black and gold J.

HW:  Read ½ of Literature Circle Book, and complete Literature Circle Assignment #1, due January 12th.
